Event Details

In 2011, Bridge Markland already excited the San Francisco audience with “faust in the box”. This year, on March 7, she will be putting Schiller’s drama “The Robbers” into a box.

Her reinterpretation of Schiller’s “Sturm und Drang” tragedy makes use of more than 150 song segments, movie soundtracks and quotes, thus reviving the original as a pop art version. Bridge Markland embodies all characters of this play herself and yet is not left alone on stage.

The performer is amongst others accompanied by US skateboarding legend Tony Hawks, a nutcracker from the Erzgebirge, Barbie’s Ken, as well as Twilight’s Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson. Appearing as very convincing puppets, all of the latter enable Markland to accomplish what she has long been known for: gender transformations within seconds. In “robbers in the box” she again shifts from Karl into Amalia, or from Amalia into Count Moor, whose different relationship to his sons evokes the drama: While the old Count Moor adores his beautiful older son Karl, his younger son Franz grows jealous and devises a plot against Karl.
