Cinema Drafthouse: Movie & Beer “Funny People” | The Independent
The Independent | 628 Divisadero St., San Francisco, CA No Comment
Normally a concert venue, The Independent hosts movie nights on Monday nights with a screening of the 2009 Judd Aptow film “Funny People” about stand up comedian George (Adam Sandler) who learns he has one year to live and seeks to mentor a struggling young comedian played by Seth Rogan.
There’s a two-drink minimum on movie nights, but we’ve never seen it strictly enforced.
Funny People (2009): George (Adam Sandler) is a very successful stand up comedian who learns that he has an untreatable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. Ira (Seth Rogen) is a struggling up-and-coming stand up comedian who works at a deli, lives with his friends Leo (Jonah Hill) and Mark (Jason Schwartzman), and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One night, these two perform at the same club and George takes notice of Ira. George hires Ira to be his semi-personal assistant as well as his friend. Directed by Judd Apatow.
