Event Details

Join them for a showcase of work from our 2016 Spring Cultural Incubator members. Over the last six months members have been developing exciting new work that explores the intersection of art, technology and social critique. Entry is free and there will be a cash bar for those 21 and above.

Ant City will be structured as a museum exhibit about the history of Argentine ants in San Francisco. It will chronicle 150 years of the ants’ history, starting in 1905 and ending in a speculative, science fictional future world of 2055. Argentine ants, often called “invasive,” arrived in California in 1905–likely by stowing away on cargo ships and railway cars.

Today, they’re the dominant ant species in San Francisco, living in houses and trees, and every colony cooperates with the others. But in 2020, something changes. Scientists discover the ants have been creating vast, invisible works of art using their pheromones on buildings in the Mission.
