Event Details

Ken Knabb is a writer, translator, historian, and social theorist. One of his recurring themes is the importance of paying attention to the psychological aspect of radical activities, a topic he first investigated in the 1970s in such works as Double-Reflection.

Like the situationists before him, Knabb has for decades refused numerous requests to take part in interviews, conferences, book signings and other public appearances.

In the last few years he has relented a bit, but this City Lights event will be the first time that he has publicly discussed his own works. Although he will also be happy to answer questions about his translations, attendees are encouraged to examine Knabb’s own writings (see his website: Bureau of Public Secrets) and bring him their questions.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Ken Knabb

He is best known for his meticulous translations of Guy Debord and the Situationist International, but he is also a penetrating and original author in his own right. Although strongly influenced by the situatonists, he has also drawn on seemingly antithetical perspectives from Kenneth Rexroth, Zen practice, and the sixties counterculture. His shorter works include leaflets and articles on Wilhelm Reich, Georges Brassens, Gary Snyder, the 1979 Iranian revolution, the 1991 Gulf war, and the 2006 anti-CPE revolt in France.

Expect the unexpected.
