Event Details

Join Stranded, Oakland’s vinyl record store on Telegraph Avenue for a free in-store concert by Calvin Johnson with his latest band, The Hive Dwellers, at 7 pm on Monday, September 15, 2014. .

Although the store isn’t saying it, but this show falls right around Stranded’s second anniversary, so stop by to hear the show, and wish them a happy birthday. Free and all ages.

Spawned in the late double-O decade by Calvin Johnson at the Dub Narcotic Studio, the Hive Dwellers is a band, a combo (as in combination) of disparate individuals who share a common love of rock’n’roll, library cards and railroad travel. When they emerge from the froth and frumble of their active bicycle-powered lives to make music, the Hive Dwellers emit a pelt of bright, shiny ((NOW)) with a love of pop music underground and it’s more vacuous mainstream distant cousins. – K Records

Calvin Johnson (born November 1, 1962) is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, music producer, and disc jockey born in Olympia, Washington. Known for his uniquely deep, droning singing voice, Johnson was a founding member of the bands Cool Rays, Beat Happening, The Go Team, Dub Narcotic Sound System, and The Halo Benders. – Wikipedia
