Celebrate the shortest day of the year with the tallest trees on earth.  Rain or shine, dress warmly, and come celebrate Winter Solstice at Muir Woods on December 21, 2012 from noon to 5pm.

Muir Woods invites you to a new Winter Solstice program that celebrates the shortest day of the year instead of the longest night.

Experience a Winter Wonderland of sights, sounds and fragrances with a day-lit walk among the giant trees.

• Interpreters along the trail will share the highlights of the season
• Explore nature sounds by sound recording expert Dan Dugan
• Make co-ho-ho and banana slug hats
• Warm up with Muir Woods Trading Company Café special solstice menu
• Gather in front of the Visitor Center at day’s end to hear Ane Carla Rovetta’s joyful storytelling

As the sun sets, we’ll return the forest to its restful night. A luminaria-lit plaza in front of the Visitor Center will see you safely home. Check back at the Muir Woods website for an updated list of performers for the 2012 daytime celebration. The park closes at 5pm.

A Note of Caution About Attending This Event:
Please be aware that this is a very small event – Muir Woods is not set up to handle huge crowds, and the amount of parking is woefully small.  So if celebrating the winter solstice is very important event to you, it might be worth the trip, but if you don’t like crowds or are just going on a whim, we recommend you think twice about making the trek as it’s likely to be too crowded to enjoy.
