Here’s the details for 2023 for an idea of what to expect:

The West Coast’s largest celebration of Taiwanese American culture, the Taiwanese American Cultural Festival, will honor its 30th anniversary on Saturday, May 13 at San Francisco’s Union Square. Since 1993, the festival has grown into an annual landmark event for the Bay Area community, drawing thousands of visitors from all over the world to experience Taiwan’s unique cultural heritage and to recognize the contributions of Taiwanese Americans today.

Our 30th festival will allow visitors to “Take Off to Taiwan”. On the day-of, Union Square will be divided into Taiwanese “cities”, inviting visitors to experience authentic Taiwanese cuisine in “Tainan” (the festival food court), watch engaging, show-stopping performances in “Taipei” (our stage and performance area), play fun, cultural activities in “Yilan” (the activities section), and more. Visitors can grab their “passport” at “Taoyuan” (our information booth and swag stand) and complete activities at each “city” to guide their festival experience this year.

We’ll be welcoming back crowd-favorite vendors like Liang’s Village—a family-run restaurant based in Cupertino—who will be serving Taiwanese classics including beef noodle soup and minced pork rice, HTY Foods, who will be offering Taiwanese snacks to energize visitors while they enjoy all that the festival has to offer, and Boundless Ceramics, who will be selling ceramic artwork and products. We’re also excited to partner with new local businesses and artists, like Yun Hai, Cultural Roots Nursery, and Felicia Liang, who will be selling dried fruits, heritage plants, and handmade crafts, respectively.

Our performance lineup this year includes distinguished groups from overseas, including the Taiwan Acrobatic Troupe of National Taiwan College of Performing Arts—currently the only official acrobatic arts and stunts performing group in Taiwan. Local performance troupes and bands will also share the limelight; Leung’s White Crane will dazzle audience members with their lion dance performance while Dream Achiever Band, a band made up of award winning musicians with Autism, will show visitors that individuals with “disabilities” can have many special “abilities”. Our lineup is rounded out with individual artists, including Chinese yo-yo performer Johnny Huang and singer-songwriter Chance Emerson, who will perform numbers featuring his signature blend of heartfelt folky stomp-and-holler with modern pop sensibilities.

The 2023 Taiwanese Cultural Festival will return to San Francisco’s Union Square on May 13, 2022 from 10AM – 4PM. This event is free and open to the public, with food and merchandise available for purchase from vendors. For more information, please visit: https://www.tap-sf.org/tacf.
