Event Details

111 Minna’s latest exhibition features new and exclusive works by Rob Reger in his solo show entitled ‘Dark Matters’ and by Adam Caldwell in his solo show ‘Colorless Green Ideas.’

Known for his highly popular comic books, graphic novels, and clothing lines from his series Emily The Strange – in addition to his gothic-macabre art style – Rob Reger’s latest works are refreshing pieces to feature at 111 Minna after nine years without this mainstay artist gracing 111’s walls. Rob Reger’s latest works exhibit his less well known but equally brilliant abstract artistic oeuvre, which is now presenting to the public for the first time in a comprehensive exhibition. Similarly, Adam Caldwell’s triumphant return to 111 Minna highlights a new collection of work featuring his duality of surreally-realistic juxtapositions and layered themes that highlight the full gamut of contemporary and classic art.

Join the artists and the 111 Minna staff again for this exceptional opening:

About Rob Reger

Rob’s art aesthetic- and design house, Cosmic Debris- grew from a tangle of roots joining the DIY punk scene of the eighties with guerrilla art, surrealism, and the psychedelic explosion of the sixties. As the founder, creative director, and president of Cosmic Debris, Rob introduced the world to Emily the Strange- an icon of empowerment for young alternative girls and outsiders of all ages.  Rob fuels his imagination with music, the natural environment, science and the artistic explorations of friends and other inspiring figures. Rob mixes clean design with a pop culture, neo-surrealist sensibility. He received a BFA from University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute. His oil paintings, printmaking, watercolor, collage, and sculpture have been exhibited in galleries around the world including Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Berlin, Milan, Hong Kong, Sydney and Santa Cruz.

About Adam Caldwell

My paintings and drawings juxtapose elements of abstract expressionism and classical figuration. During my training at the California College of Arts and Crafts, I began to create collage drawings that layered disparate images on top of one another; I now use oil paint in a similar way, starting with an abstract background and then adding more photorealistic details, allowing the work to dictate its own construction. The resulting palimpsest of figures and abstract shapes represents the conflicted and paradoxical emotions that underlie my work. My paintings evoke the tensions between mind and body, self and other, present and past. They also raise questions about the nature of identity, particularly concerning issues of gender and sexuality. I am deeply concerned about the world around me, and my work reflects my reactions to social issues such as war and consumerism by contrasting images from American advertisements and popular culture with images of rituals from around the world.
