March on Washington & Chinese Americans: Discussion | SF

The Chinese Historical Society of America is taking part in the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington by holding a conversation about the march that changed lives forever at 1 pm on August 10, 2013.

Joining them will be Charlie Chin, Laurene Wu McClain, and Steve Phillips. Charlie and Laurene will discuss what it was like to be at the march, how their work was impacted by the Civil Rights Movement, and what the march means to the Chinese American community. Steve, activist and co-founder of the nonprofit advocacy and political organization PowerPAC will discuss the historical importance and continuing impact of the Civil Rights Movement represented by the March. Moderating the discussion will be Doug Chan.

The March on Washington on August 1963 was the largest demonstration for human rights in the history of the United States. Organized by a group of civil rights, labor, and religious organizations, it was attended by 300,000 people, demonstrating the power of Americans working towards fairness and equality.
