Event Details

Celebrate the history of our beloved Golden Gate Bridge on its 75th Anniversary  and the men who built and maintain it with a guided walking tour and labor history lesson on July 21, 2012.

Hear about the challenges of the original construction and learn about the current projects. Meet the trade members who maintain the bridge today. Walk out onto the Bridge with some of its own ironworkers and painters, and hear from them the creative ways they meet every challenge. Learn also how the new Doyle Drive rebuild will impact the way the Bridge is operating. Hear how the ongoing seismic upgrades will protect the Bridge into the future.

>> This walking tour is part of Laborfest 2012 – a month-long festival of mostly free events commemorating the working class and laborers of San Francisco. So expect a healthy amount of labor-friendly politics along with your history and great views.

Where to Meet:
Meet outside Bridge Café at South side of Bridge (that’s the San Francisco side) for the Golden Gate Bridge Walk celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the bridge. The informative tour will be led by Mike Daly (Ironworkers Local 377).
