Amy Seiwert’s Imagery, a contemporary ballet company announces the fourth and final film of its SKETCH FILMS : Red Thread documentary dance film project. The world premiere, What the Body Holds is a dance film created by Imagery Artistic Fellow Ben Needham-Wood in collaboration with filmmaker Matthew McKee.
Needham-Wood’s new film is inspired by the work of Svetlana (Lana) Pivchik, an advocate for domestic violence survivors. Pivchik has worked as an advocate supporting survivors of domestic violence for 15 years, and currently serves as an in-custody case manager for the Survivor Restoration Program in San Francisco.
What the Body Holds features music composed by Kishi Bashi and Emily Hope Price, and Amy Seiwert’s Imagery alumni dancer Jenna Marie (Ballet Hispanico). Ben Needham-Wood is the winner of three Regional Emmy Awards, and has worked on previous films with filmmaker Matthew McKee including BaseBallet: Into the Game which was screened at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival in 2017, and celebrated the athleticism of dance, highlighting its attributes through parallels with another great discipline – baseball.
