Annie Alley Public Promenade | SoMa
From May 20-24, 2013 SPUR embarks on a week-long experiment in public placemaking in San Francisco’s Annie Alley.
Working with the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District, they will close Annie Alley to car traffic and host a series of outdoor public events, including a picnic, a film screening, a concert and a discussion of the role Zuccotti Park played in Occupy Wall Street.
Join SPUR for a discussion about improving the design, use and access of public space with Michael Pyatok of Pyatok Architects.
Free, but an RSVP is required.
With its central location in New York’s Financial District, its dense tree canopy and abundance of seating and wide-open spaces, Zucotti Park provided the perfect frontline for the Occupy Wall Street movement. The new book, Beyond Zucotti Park, asks a myriad of noted designers about the use, role and importance of public space in democracy.
