2017 Dahlia Digout
Saturday, January 7, 2017 | 9:30 am to 3:30 pm
Meeting Spot is Pompei Circle & JFK Drive – just east of the Conservatory of Flowers
Free, but please RSVP to recparkvolunteer@sfgov.org
Located in the northeastern corner of Golden Gate Park (near the Conservatory of Flowers), the Dahlia Garden celebrates the official flower of San Francisco with a diverse spread of colors that grow in a thick, fenced-in treasure trove of blooms. Dahlias have had a dedicated plot near the Conservatory of Flowers since the mid 1920s.
What to Wear/Bring: Please wear sturdy closed-toe footwear and warm clothes (long-sleeve shirts and pants). If you have them, bring gloves and pruning shears. The event occurs rain or shine.
Where to Go: Please note that the directions seem conflicting to us saying to meet at “Pompei Circle & JFK Drive” which is on the main road South East oft the Conservatory of Flowers and then later says “just east of the Conservatory of Flowers” which is where the Dahlia Dell is. Please email recparkvolunteer@sfgov.org for exact directions.
You will find the Dahlia Dell located between two walking paths that lead east from the Conservatory of Flowers. By car, drive towards Conservatory Drive East or JFK Drive – you will find parking along Conservatory Drive East. There is no sign identifying the garden, so look for the single picnic table as you walk down the paths.
Organized in 1917, the Dahlia Society of California (DSC) is the San Francisco chapter of the American Dahlia Society. The event is co-hosted by SF Rec & Park Department.
