Event Details

Enjoy an art reception for Jack Freeman’s “Ohlone Way: Nudes and Plein Air Paintings” and a free jug band concert at Alley Cat Books & Gallery.

The Babar Jug Band originated in kitchens of the SF Mission District in the early 1980s, and moved to the Cafe Babar at 22nd and Guerrero (Liberties), taking the name Cafe Babar Jug Band. The sessions in the back room of the Cafe Babar often attracted as many as 30 players with instrumentation that varied weekly. Over the years, the music has expanded from bluegrass to include folk, blues, calypso, reggae, Motown and country. The results are a fresh, exciting, danceable and wildly diverse sound that has once again been reborn in a new generation.

Jack Freeman has been painting for close to seven decades. His intimate engagements with European modernism and the post-war California landscape and abstractionist schools have led to a unique synthesis of aesthetic concerns evident in the Ohlone Way paintings.
