This October Mission-based mixed media artist Laura Della Guardia is hosting an art show in the Mission as a fundraiser for The Women’s Building. There will be a silent auction of her series denouncing female stereotypes called Faceless. The series aims to call attention to the reductions and assumptions people make every day about women and is meant to make them question those reductions and assumptions. Through cartoonish portraits of faceless female stereotypes, Faceless shows how unforgiving reductionism is and how it bolsters prejudice and propagates discrimination through homogenization. “For when we are faceless, are we not voiceless as well?”
Join them for a free and fun evening of art, social justice, music, wine and snacks. Worse case scenario: attend a free event that makes you think and engage with your community. Best case scenario: you make a new best friend after hour-long conversations about women’s issues and go home with some excellent art. The best part? You’ll know you contributed to a good cause: a portion of the auction proceeds will be donated to The Women’s Building.
