Event Details

Electric Works is pleased to announce Proscenium, a new body of work by Candace Plummer Gaudiani. These large-scale color photographs, all taken from the vantage of a train window, theatrically capture and transform the rural geography of the United States. The window (along with its scratches, distortions and grime of travel) serves as a portal to a little-visited view of the nation. With the inclusion of curtains from the dining car these windows not only offer a view to the outside; they help set and alter the scene. Gaudiani’s interest in the history of rural America, sense of memory and the timelessness of the natural landscape all play important roles in her dreamlike photography.

Her works are held in numerous collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; George Eastman House; The Prentice and Paul Collection/Sack Photographic Trust; Art Museum of the Americas, Organization of American States; the Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection; The Harry Ransom Center for the Humanities, Austin, Texas; Ryerson University, Toronto; and private collections. Her work is exhibited widely in the United States and Europe.

Scott Kildall’s Future Memories is also on display in the Project Room.
