Carrotmob: Support The Matching Half | NOPA

You know the idea of boycotting a business, well Carrotmob is the opposite: reward a local business for doing good by spending your money there. (it’s a carrot-and-stick idea)

This time the event is at Matching Half Cafe from 3 to 6pm. We’ll be out there with our wigs and carrot costumes. I guarantee a good time will be had by all.

WHAT’S THE DEAL?

When you buy stuff between 3 – 6pm, the owners of the Matching Half pledged 200% of their profits from this Carrotmob event. That is to say, Matching Half Cafe will be the matching half committing an additional dollar for every dollar of the profit generated in the 3 hour time span (pun fully intended).

AND THEN WHAT?

The point is for Matching Half to reinvest that money to make their business more sustainable. With that in mind, here’s what they’ll do:

• To reduce our reliance on fossil fuels they’ll buy a bike trailer to transpor produce from the local farmers market to our business. That’s $405 for the trailer and bags.
• Leftover money will be used to offset the cost of produce purchase from farmers markets.
• In addition, they want to reduce the current 75% diversion rate of waste up to 90%. So, they’ll buy reusable food storage containers to reduce reliance on plastic wrap and bags
• Any excess funds will go to a trial phase of Organic Milk in our coffee drinks.

It is now up to you, the mob and consumer, to get out and support a local cafe that is working hard to create a sustainable business. If caffeine isn’t your usual afternoon friend, don’t forget that Matching Half sells sandwiches, salads, pastries, as well as BEER and WINE in addition to their gourmet lattes and drip coffees.
