On Saturday, May 25, as part of the Cultural Festival in Chinatown presented by CHSA and the Chinatown History and Culture Association, we will be hosting the Chinese American Stories series at Victory Hall, featuring:
CHSA pop-up exhibits:
CALLED TO RISE: highlighting Chinese American GIs in the China-Burma-India Theater and WWII.
DETAINED AT LIBERTY’S DOOR: tracing the formation of the Angel Island Immigration Station and the inspiring story of Mrs. Lee Yoke Suey.
Panel presentations:
“A Conversation with My Parents,” presented by Ron Chan: One man’s AI conversations with his deceased grandparents.
“Chinese American Families and the Long-term Impact of Chinese Exclusion Laws,” presented by Anna Eng: life of Chinese immigrants during Chinese Exclusion-era America.
“Our Moms: Chinese G.I. War Brides,” presented by Leona Lau: the impact of the 1945 War Brides Act on the birth of the first wave of second-generation Chinese Americans.
Film screening:
Lingering Dream of Homeland: Family story of Chaoyang, an elderly Taishanese “huaqiao” (overseas Chinese) man who brings his American-born-Chinese grandson back to his ancestral home.
