Christmas Eve w/ 1950s-Style Carhop Service at Mel’s Drive-In

With indoor and outdoor dining banned under the current stay-at-home order, it’s nice to know you can still have a meal away from home. Mel’s Drive-In in San Francisco is still offering its retro carhop service since technically it’s “delivery” to your car, not outdoor dining.

Mel’s opened on December 23, 1947 with their first carhop restaurant in San Francisco on 140 South Van Ness – so this week is their 73rd anniversary

Mel’s San Francisco is open for carhop service on Christmas Eve until 10pm on Lombard and open until 8pm on Geary. Please note that times may change so contact Mel’s first before heading out. (Mel’s is closed on Christmas Day)

The last time we went back in November they had a $9.99 burger, fries and coke deal – let’s hope they have the same deal.

Mel’s Drive-In, the quintessential 1950s-style American restaurant is going back in time for the sake of social-distancing. Just like old times, drive up, park the car, have a carhop server take your order, and enjoy it from the safety of your car. Listen to music, enjoy the neon, and just have fun. Mel’s Drive-in strives to keep the spirit of the classic American diner and home-style cooking alive and well.

Mel’s is offering carhop service at two San Francisco locations

• 2165 Lombard St. (Marina Dist. at Steiner) – Carhop service all day – 8a-10p
• 3355 Geary Blvd (Inner Richmond at Parker Ave.) – Carhop available all day – 8a-9p (Mon-Thu), 8a-10p (Friday-Sun)
