Chapel of the Chimes Hayward celebrates Chung Yeung 2019 with its annual festival on October 5, 2019. During the free event, Chinese lion dancers scare away “bad” spirits, Buddhist and Taoist monks offer traditional blessings, and attendees pay their respects at the Wall of Honor.
This ancient Chinese “grave-sweeping” tradition is conducted on the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese lunar calendar to care for ancestors’ graves and make sacrifices with special paper money and paper winter clothing.
