2016 Bay Area “Fungus Fair”

Learn all about our amazing shrooms at 11th annual free festival in Point Reyes

At the 11th annual Point Reyes National Seashore Fungus Fair you’ll learn about the fungi of the Point Reyes National Seashore, see remarkable colors and shapes of wild mushrooms that were collected right in the park.

Attend lectures, and learn about edible and poisonous mushrooms in the Bear Valley Visitor Center Auditorium.

Debbie Viess presents a whirlwind tour of interesting fungi from around the country. David Rust will list some of the “do’s” and many of the “don’ts” of edible mushrooms. Amateur mycologists will be on hand to talk about mushrooms, and their role in the environment. Learn more about the Bay Area Mycological Society activities, scientific and educational mission.

2016 Schedule of Speakers

  • 12 noon: Introduction to Wild and Edible Mushrooms, David Rust
  • 2 pm: Amanitarita’s Freaky and Fabulous Fungi, Debbie Viess

Collect fungi for the fair on Saturday, January 2
Meet at the Bear Valley Visitor Center at 10 am. You’ll meet in front of the Bear Valley Visitor Center to organize. Be sure to bring a basket or bag, water, compass, knife, pencil/pen, and a lunch. Bring collections to the Red Barn starting at 1 pm for identification.
