3 Bay Area Counties Open “Low Risk” Retail Today. 6 Others Wait
Thanks to SFGate for letting us know that Solano, Sonoma and Napa counties are planning on reopening retail with storefront pickup as early as Friday, while six other Bay Area Counties, including San Francisco, are waiting to modify their shelter-in-place orders.
California allows counties to decide when they want to move forward with the first steps of “Stage 2” of the reopening for lower-risk businesses like bookstores, toy stores, record stores and clothing shops, as long as the stores maintain strict social distancing and safety guidelines.
Customers are not allowed to enter the stores, but can pick up anything they’ve ordered similarly to how restaurants currently work.
Which Counties May Open Up Retail As Early as May 8
Solano, Sonoma and Napa – please note SFGate reports these counties are “preparing to reopen retail with curbside pickup as early as Friday.” The “as early as” implies that this might not be completely ready on Friday.
Which Counties are Waiting to Reopen Stage 2
Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara (plus Berkeley). While no specific date has been set for these jurisdictions that typically act in concert, San Francisco has issued a statement giving May 18th as a potential date.
It is important that our local communities understand that the regional Health Orders that took effect May 4 are still in effect. These orders – in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and the City of Berkeley – loosen restrictions on construction as well as outdoor activities and businesses. The Bay Area orders do not currently permit curbside pickup from non-essential, non-outdoor businesses, and that is not allowed to begin on Friday, May 8. Read the full statement.
