49ers’ Super Bowl Loss May Have Actually Saved Lives in SF
Thanks to SF Gate for letting us know that the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss, as sucky as it was, may have actually saved Bay Area lives.
Not all losses are defeat and in every cloud there is a silver lining. The 49ers’ Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs in early February may be heartbreaking but according to the UCSF’s Department of Medicine it spared us from a much worse fate and ended up saving Bay Area lives.
If they had won the game, there could have been thousands of people celebrating on the streets of San Francisco but instead disappointed fans stayed home.
The lack of a celebratory parade in SF early February may have indeed saved lives. In the end, what seems to be a brutal loss may have turned into a blessing in disguise. Help flatten the curve, stay home and save lives.
In a UCSF Medical Grand Rounds presentation posted on YouTube, Niraj Sehgal, Chief Quality Officer and co-lead of the UCSF COVID-19 Command Center reported: “With apologies to the 49ers fans, the gift we may have been given was the 49ers losing,” Sehgal said. “If you think about what happened that weekend, had the 49ers won and there were parades and parties at that time, that may have had an impact that I haven’t seen actually described.”
