Expect a “Cooler” New Muni in September
Rooftop cookouts after 6pm aren’t the only things chilly in the city in the summer. Muni wants to make sure that our commutes are all properly temperature controlled.
For the first time in recent memory, Muni buses will get air conditioning.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) recently announced that 98 hybrid-electric Muni buses with air conditioning will start to arrive next month. This would be in addition to the 60 new long electric buses which already have air conditioning.
Muni’s New Air Conditioned Buses
– Cost is about $5 million for first 265 buses (about $19,000 per bus)
– Will eventually be rolled out on 538 new busses
– Thermostats will be set to 70 degrees
– (Allegedly) environmentally friendly
– The first with climate control and state of the art technology (the future!)
According to the agreement with New Flyer, the manufacturer of the new buses, A/C will also be included all bus purchases from now on.
So, from here on out it’s good news that your hoodie will now be useful for something other than covering up when the Karl the Fog rolls in since Muni will be giving you a super chill Muni just in time for SF’s hottest month of the year.
