This Bay Area Rapper Is Working on a COVID Vaccine
Thanks to SF Gate for letting us know about Ruby Ibarra, a Filipino American rapper whose day job is as a scientist for a Bay Area tech company working in quality assurance on COVID-19 test kits and a possible vaccine.
That’s her day job. For her “night” job, Ibarra is a rapper, music producer, and spoken word artist from San Lorenzo. She raps in Tagalog, Waray, and English. She appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert in 2019 with her band The Balikbayans.
While quarantining, Ibarra is working on her sophomore album and working with her band members over Zoom and exchanging home studio-recorded demos.
