Sports Basement Parking Lot, 610 Old Mason St, SF
FREE to watchFeatured sculptors and artists include Lawrence Noble, Chairman of Academy of Art University’s Sculpture Department and famous for creating the ‘Yoda Fountain’ for George Lucas in the Presidio. Carve also showcases sand artists featured on The Travel Channel’s ‘The Sand Masters.’
These sculptures are durable – it’s a special sand mixed with a little clay and we’re told won’t come down even if it were to rain.
Event is free, but it costs $1 if you’d like to vote for your favorite sculpture (money goes to non-profit)
At the end of the festival, all the sand used in the sculptures (about $6,000 worth) will be donated to the Presidio Trust for use in parks, construction and golf course sand traps.
