Crazy Blue Sea Creatures Invade Ocean Beach
Yes we know the ocean is “blue” but we didn’t know the beach was, too.
Over the weekend a bunch of mysteriously blue sea creatures showed up on Ocean Beach creating a gorgeous party of blue beauties on the sand.
But the mystery was quickly solved when the experts at the Monterey Bay Aquarium confirmed they are Velella (known as “purple sails”). These brilliantly colored jelly-like creatures flood California beaches in the springtime every few years but are showing up a bit late this year.

The Velella can’t swim… they’re at the mercy of the tide and wind, so there’s probably no need to worry about a sentient planned invasion.
Sadly for these harmless little guys, in a few days the jelly bits will dry out leaving little “skeletons” on the beach.
