Debardchery

A one day time travel trip to the middle ages with archery and medieval poetry

The Shire of Cloondara (the San Francisco branch of the Society for Creative Anachronisms, who re-create the customs, combat, and courtesies of the Middle Ages) invites you to attend “DeBARDchery,” the annual archery and bardic tournament.

Watch people dressed in middle ages garb match their mirth, merriment, and archery skills (including using novelty targets) followed by a medieval poetic composition.

2015 Debardchery
Saturday, August 15, 2015 | 10 am to 5 pm
SF Archers Range, Gunrange Rd, Pacifica
FREE (Donations are appreciated and please bring a dish for the potluck lunch.)

The theme for the 2015 bardic competition is inspired by the book “Uppity Women of Medieval Times” by Vicki Leon. They are looking for pieces based on any woman/women that went beyond the stereotypical roles to become successful in their own right.

There will be novelty shoots and competitions. If you’re an archer, bring your bow and arrows (no compound or crossbows, please). If you’re a bard, bring your dramatic and musical talents (no amplified sound please, but lutes, flutes, lyres, tambourines, and guitars are welcome).

Wear Medieval Garb: Participants are expected to make an attempt at medieval clothing. Typically, free medieval loaner tunics and accessories are available, but it’s best to put together your own medieval ensemble beforehand.

Bring a dish to share: Please contribute a dish based on your name: A-J: side/salad; K-R: dessert; S-Z: main dish. The hungry archers will appreciate it.

Please note, in 2015, they will return to the Pacifica location, not Golden Gate Park as in past years.
