Annual procession through the Mission and festival of altars

Honor those who have passed on by creating an altar or taking part in a walking procession at the annual Dia de los Muertos Procession at 7 pm, and Festival of Altars from 6-11 pm.

Six local groups have been commissioned to build large-scale community altar installations in Garfield Park and will be joined by over 75 personal altars created by community members. Please bring candles (in glass containers), flowers, photos, mementos, food, or drinks to place on the altars in celebration of the lives of those now gone.

2014 Schedule

  • 7 pm: Day of the Dead Procession: Meet at 22nd and Bryant at 7 pm
  • 6-11 pm: Day of the Dead Festival of Altars: Garfield Park, 26th and Harrison

School groups, students, and media are welcome to join Marigold Project at Garfield Park from 12 noon to 5 pm to see the creation of altars.
