Friday Nights at the De Young 2016 Kickoff

Awesome free Friday night series is back starting April 15th

Friday Nights at the de Young is a free weekly after-hours art “happening” in the museum’s public spaces.

The event has a new theme every week, but typically includes an eclectic mix of live music, dance performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, artist demos, hands-on art activities, and more. Plus, the observation tower is open until 8 pm.

Free Museum Admission after 5:30pm
Access to the permanent collection galleries is now free of charge during Friday Nights at the de Young.

A discounted $15 ticket is required to visit the special exhibition galleries.

Season 12 of Friday Nights at the de Young opens with a celebration of the special exhibition presents an evening of art, live flamenco jazz and a film screening to complement the new Oscar de la Renta retrospective exhibition.

Don’t forget – museum admission to the permanent collection galleries is now free of charge during Friday Nights at the de Young (paid tickets are still required, however, to view the special exhibitions, such as Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective).

Spanish-born, jazz-flamenco pianist Alex Conde carves a distinct musical path through bebop language and authentic Andalusian rhythms. His latest work,Descarga for Monk (2015) placed Conde among the best album lists of prestigious international publications such as Downbeat, All About Jazz, Cadance, and Latin Jazz Network. KQED acknowledged this album, featuring a unique application of flamenco rhythms to Monk’s jazz standards, as one of the Top Ten Bay Area jazz releases of 2015.

As a complement to the exhibition Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco present a screening of the acclaimed documentary, Versailles ‘73: American Runway Revolution (2012).
