Lower Haight’s Boarded-up Storefront Murals
Thanks to Hoodline for sharing that Lower Haight comes together to beautify boarded-up storefronts.
The iconic Lower Haight is known for its lovingly-gritty, nonchalant vibe with art galleries, bars, record stores and tattoo parlors. Sadly as many businesses are forced to close due to the pandemic, the once vibrant neighborhood feels desolate and empty.
To brighten up the neighborhood, business owners, artists and the neighborhood association have teamed up to paint murals on boarded-up businesses.
Holly Ellis, the owner of Idle Hand Tattoo, decided to “put up something that would be pleasing to look at, and maybe bring a smile to her neighbors’ faces.” She drew up a mural design based on “The Rose of No Man’s Land,” a World War I-era song written as a tribute to frontline Red Cross nurses.
So if you’re in need for a brisk walk and you’re in the neighborhood, take a walk down Haight and see how many murals you can find.
