Thanks to SF Gate for their profile on Simone Jacques, a 17-year-old high school junior who, with her friends, organized the massive demonstration and protest yesterday in front of Mission High School – a crowd that was estimated to be anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000.
“We’re just youth who grew up in the city. We’re just people who care and love each other, and love each other enough to take care of each other,” said Jacques.
Her father is from Haiti and her month was born in Mexico and moved to the Mission District in the 1960s. Her family has been community oriented and active in the Mission.
