SF commemorates the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march on Monday

Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an MLK Day festival, march and parade around Yerba Buena Gardens, held annually on the third Monday in January.

Attend a full day of free and exciting events, festivals and programs, as well as a march and parade from Caltrain to Yerba Buena Gardens to commemorate the Selma to Montgomery march.

2016 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade
Monday, January 18, 2016 | 11 am
– March starts at the San Francisco Caltrain Station
– Festival held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts & Garden

The march begins at 11 am. The 1.5 mile journey crosses the Lefty O’Doul Bridge and stops at Willie Mays Plaza at AT&T Park to commemorate the crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, a symbol of violence and victory in the civil rights movement.

At the conclusion of the march,in partnership with the San Francisco Interfaith Council, an interfaith commemoration will bring together the region’s faith leaders to commemorate the vision of Dr. King and to lead participants in a spiritual reflection of his message.
