Muni / BART / Caltrain / SamTrans Still Operating
With Monday’s “Shelter in Place” order, all of the major Bay Area transportation services are still operating either at regular service, or slightly reduced. Latest updates as of 3/16/20 at 5:05pm
Muni
Starting Tuesday, March 17, Muni will reduce commuter bus service. Muni Metro rail service is currently running normal schedules.
Bus and Historic Service
- Most routes will operate, but with reduced frequency
- Cancel the following commuter express service: NX, 1AX/BX, 7X, 14X, 30X, 31AX/BX, 38AX/BX, 41, 81X, 82X, 83X, 88, 714
- Operate the following historic service with buses: F (Along Embarcadero Only), All Cable Cars
- Cancel the following historic service: E
No changes to Muni Metro or Owl All-Nighter Service

BART continues regular service during shelter in place. BART will continue to provide regular service for riders performing essential activities and for riders travelling to and from “essential business” work, with long enough trains to allow for social distancing.
SamTrans
SamTrans will continue to operate a non-school day schedule on weekdays. During the week, routes will not serve stops that are labeled as ‘School Days Only.’ Weekend service and paratransit service will operate unchanged. Ridership will be monitored closely to ensure that riders are able to practice social distancing in accordance with Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines.
Caltrain
Caltrain will operate on a reduced peak-hour schedule that goes into effect March 17. Morning and afternoon peak hour service will no longer feature Baby Bullet Service. The updated weekday schedule is available at www.caltrain.com.
AC Transit
AC Transit has not given any specific updates after the “Shelter in Place” order on 3/16/20. The last update was on 3/13 which was specifically related to the school closures. AC Transit will temporarily suspend supplemental bus lines (600-series) to the above canceled schools beginning Monday, March 16
Golden Gate Transit
Nine weekday tripss will be cancelled effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, until further notice. Additional cancellations may be necessary and will be communicated to customers on a daily basis via @GoldenGateBus on Twitter and via Transit app.
Golden Gate Ferry
Still operating but with an adjusted schedule. See the updated ferry schedule.
VTA
VTA will suspend school trip service and run one-car trains where ridership is extremely low, effective Monday, March 16.
Paratransit (San Francisco)
Paratransit service continues to operate as normal. If you are 60 years old or older, or have health conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, kidney disease, or have a weakened immune system, it is advised that you avoid non-essential use of SF Access service at this time. If you are a paratransit customer and you need to cancel a previously scheduled SF Access trip, please call 415.285.6945.
Taxis (San Francisco)
Taxi service continues to operate as normal.
