“People in Plazas” Market Street Music Festival

Over 130 free concerts at 15 venues throughout the summer

This free annual outdoor music festival puts on nearly 140 free lunchtime concerts of all styles from July to October in 15 different public plazas stretched from the Embarcadero through the Castro.

2014 Highlight Performances

July 17 – Los Chiles Verdes – 333 Market St.
Los Chiles Verdes (The Green Chiles) is a professional band of 16 young musicians that range in age from 8 to 14 that was formed by Jose Leon and Tony Price in 2009.

July 30 – Katdelic Acoustic – Crocker Galleria
The music of RonKat and Members of Katdelic Acoustic is a moving and entertaining experience. The songs performed are love songs mixed with some of his electric music, rearranged for the acoustic guitar.

August 7 – Sony Holland – Transamerica Redwood Park
Well known jazz vocalist Sony Holland got her start busking at Pier 39 and quickly moved on to to bigger platforms like Yoshi’s and the San Jose Jazz Festival.

August 20 – Cartoon Jazz Band – One Bush Plaza
Launched in 2003 at the Stanford Jazz Festival, the band revives music by composer Raymond Scott, and other jazz pieces which have been used in cartoons.

Sept. 14 – Caribbean All Stars – Jane Warner Plaza
The band’s spirited Soca, Calypso, and Reggae rhythms have made them local favorites for over thirty years. They have performed at almost every venue in the Bay Area, opening for several touring Reggae performers,as well as local celebrities.

Oct. 3 – Pat Wilder – 425 Market St.
A magnetic mix of peeling guitar licks that defy gender classification, accompanied by an organic vocal style that evokes worldly conviction.
