San Jose’s Brand New LGBTQ District
Thank you KTVU for letting us know that San Jose now has its own designated LGBTQ district.
The newly created hub, called Qmunity District, establishes a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming place for LGBTQ+ people and families in the South Bay. The new district will feature shopping, socializing, dining, networking, and nightlife in Downtown San José on Post Street from S. 1st to S. Market Streets.
The District officially launched in Summer 2020, bringing new signature lighting, maple trees, urban art, street swag, and soon, the first LGBTQ+ mural. This is just the first phase of a multi-part project. Phase 2 will involve community input focusing on how to grow. Plus, they’ll be bringing new business and hosting events.
They’ll be hosting a series of town hall meetings to help grow the district and decide on the next steps.
The District is looking for LGBTQ+ painters, hobbyists, and artists to help design and paint urban art and murals in the District. You may also volunteer to help with a variety of administrative and operational tasks vital to the success of the organization.
#SanJose didn’t really have a designated #LGBTQ district until now. The @QmunityDistrict is looking for LGBTQ artists for a mural they’re planning. https://t.co/lrT3yAZKhb
