San Mateo: Visitors Not Welcome for Outdoor Dining & Haircuts
Thanks to SF Gate for letting us know that San Mateo County is pushing back against people crossing county lines for outdoor dining, salon services and haircuts.
California allows these services to continue in regions where ICU capacity is above 15%.
UPDATE: After this article was published, California updated their numbers on 12/16/20 and the ICU capacity for the region were reported as 12.9% which puts the entire Bay Area region into the new Stay-at-Home order which closes salons, barbershops and outdoor dining effective 11:59pm on Thursday, December 17. While the Bay Area hasn’t yet hit this threshold (ICU capacity for the Bay Area is report to be 15.8% as of 12/15/20), Other counties (including neighboring counties of San Francisco, Alameda, Santa Clara) have decided in advance to be more restrictive.
San Mateo County is a local outlier in keeping these services open, at least until the state mandates the closure of “nonessential” businesses.
This has resulted in many people from nearby counties crossing county lines.
