Meet California’s First Touch-Free Crosswalk Signals
Thanks to Mercury News for letting us know about California’s first touch-free tech at crosswalks installed in Santa Clara County.
Last Thursday, The County of Santa Clara demonstrated the installation of Touch Free Pedestrian Signal Devices at multiple crosswalks. The new contact-free devices enable pedestrians to activate the walk signal by waving a hand in front of them, eliminating the need to push the button and touch surfaces during a pandemic.
The County is installing 25 of these devices at expressway intersections with heavy pedestrian traffic.
Where are the new touch-free crosswalk Signals?
The touch-free devices, easily identified by the new signage, will be installed along expressways located in San Jose, Santa Clara, San Martin, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto and Los Altos.
- Two Central Expressway intersections, including one at Castro Street and one at Rengstorff Avenue
