Here’s Why Seagulls Abandoned Oracle Park This Summer
Thanks to SF Gate for figuring out where all the seagulls went during the Giants baseball season at Oracle Park since there weren’t any fans in the stands leaving left-over garlic fries for them to munch on.
A Giants spokesperson noted that the gulls never showed up all summer (other than some fun cutouts in the stadium’s upper deck) and went elsewhere to forage.
A UC Berkeley professor of ecology, Steven Beissinger, says this is probably a good thing as seagulls are typically more healthy with a natural diet of insects, fish and eggs than junk food ballpark leftovers.
But if fans are allowed in the stands next year, expect the gulls to be back in full force “Bet your bottom dollar when the food starts showing up again, they’ll be back to snack,” said Beissinger.
