SF’s First Cat Cafe Opens
We’ve been waiting for over a year… the city’s first ever “cat cafe” called, KitTea opens on June 24, 2015 with their reservation system up and running. That’s right, play with adorable adoptable kitties while drinking tea!
The only catch? It’s $25 a person per hour – just to play with cats!
But that includes unlimited premium teas during your visit (and we hope no waiting in line for the bathroom after drinking all that tea.
There will be about 12-15 cats for you to play with (that’s the max that research says should be living together in group situations) with cats that have been rescued by Wonder Cat Rescue and Give Me Shelter

SAN FRANCISCO | Try the SPCA where you can play with adoptable cats for free, but you’ll probably have to buy your own tea. The SPCA has two adoption centers – Mission Campus (250 Florida Street) and the Pacific Heights Campus (2343 Fillmore Street) that are typically open Mon – Fri from 1pm to 7pm, and on weekends from 10am to 6pm.
The SPCA charges between $75 to $125 for adoptions but they have a few free adoption weekends throughout the year.

OAKLAND | CAT TOWN CAFE – you’ll get the complete cat cafe experience without the hiss-worthy price at the non-profit Cat Town Cafe (2869 Broadway), America’s first cat cafe which opened a few months ago (without the TechCrunch bravado). Free walk-ins are welcome, but they highly recommend that you make a Cat Zone Reservation for a $10 donation per hour, especially on weekends. Only 14 people are allowed into the Cat Zone at one time.
You’ll meet 6-20 cats, and you can buy your own pour-over coffee from Bicycle Coffee, bagels from Authentic Bagel Company, and various treats from Rolling Sloane’s. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, and viewing windows into the Cat Zone should they reach capacity. Cat Town hours: 9:30 am – 7 pm Wednesday through Sunday. (Closed Monday and Tuesday to acclimate new cats into the space).
