Ahead of a planned protest, SF removes 4,000 lb. statue that had been repeatedly vandalized

Thanks to the Chronicle and ABC Bay Area for letting us know that ahead of a planned protest, San Francisco officials removed a 4,000 lb. statue of Christopher Columbus from Coit Tower early on Thursday.
The removal of the statue comes after having been vandalized multiple times with red paint and being cleaned and restored by San Francisco arts commission
