SF’s New “Cigarette Ban” Might Not Pass After All
Thanks to SF Gate for letting us know that after voting 10-1 last week to approve a “cigarette ban” ordinance aimed and curbing smoking inside apartment buildings, the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday reconsidered the matter and voted 6-5 to instead send the matter back to committee.
The goal of the original ordinance was to make sure that those living in apartment buildings should be free from second-hand smoke. (Curiously, there was a special exception carved out for marijuana smoking).
But this week supervisors voted against the measure with Supervisor Aaron Peskin one voice stating that he had heard from many long-term renters that the ban would be detrimental to them.
The matter will now go back to committee.

While I’ve rarely changed my position between first and second votes, I’ve been persuaded by many older, long-term renters that this legislation is not only unnecessary to accomplish its goal, but potentially destabilizing in the midst of this pandemic.https://t.co/YKyUWVG4yB
