SF’s Historic 1926 Balboa Theater Reopens May 14
Thanks to SF Gate for letting us know that one of SF’s oldest movie theaters, the Balboa Theater in the Outer Richmond, is planning on reopening on May 14th.
The Balboa, located at 3630 Balboa Street, first opened in 1926 showing silent movies. They shut down early in the pandemic but built an outdoor parklet to show movies and serve curbside popcorn.
The movie theater plans to open up indoors at 50% capacity starting May 14th with Godzillafest showing 10 classic godzilla flicks originally screened from 1954-1971. Tickets are $15.
In the meantime while you wait for the indoor reopening, you can still visit the Balboa’s “Popcorn Pop-ups” which show outdoor movies and serve fresh movie popcorn and beer. The Popcorn Pop-Ups at the parklet are open Wednesday (4-7p), Friday (4-7p), Saturday (4-7p) and Sunday (1-6p).
We have big news, we are reopening on May 14th with a Godzillafest! We will be at 50% capacity and encourage all attendees to be fully vaccinated. We can’t wait to show you movies again! Tickets on sale now! https://t.co/I6pZpOYQ17 pic.twitter.com/cN2cUsazEh
