South Lake Tahoe May Starting Fining Tourists $1,000
In the lead up to what is normally a packed Memorial Day weekend, South Lake Tahoe is increasing enforcement of their local order which allows the city to fine people $1,000 who violate the state’s stay-at-home order.
According to SF Gate, South Lake mayor Jason Collins says the city has already issued one citation to a hotel and two more to short-term rental owners and will city more if necessary and may additionally issue citations to guests of those properties.
Currently, South Lake Tahoe prohibits hotels, Aribnb’s and short-term rentals from renting properties to anyone other than essential workers. The city has, however, recently relaxed rules against people who own second homes in Tahoe from visiting.
