Tenderloin’s New “Black Trans Lives Matter” Mural
Thank you SFIST and Do the Bay for letting us know about the new Black Trans Lives Matter Mural located at Turk and Taylor in the Tenderloin.
The Transgender District is the first legally recognized transgender district in the world. Preserving the legacy of the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots of 1966, the district is based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.
The 54th Anniversary of the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots was commemorated with a mural using the colors of the transgender flag.
Led by local artists Xara Thustra, Sen Mendez, and Kin Folkz, together with some volunteers from the transgender community, they painted a mural in the heart of the Tenderloin at the intersection of Turk and Taylor.
To cap off the celebration, the organization will be hosting a virtual anniversary celebration on Friday, August 28 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
