Uber “Likely” to Shut Down for Months in California
Thanks to KRON4 for letting us know that Uber says it’s likely to shut down temporarily in California over the new driver ruling.
Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi says that ride- sharing company is likely shut down for several months in California if a court does not overturn a recent ruling requiring to classify its drivers as full-time employees. The order will require Uber and Lyft to provide benefits and unemployment insurance for workers.
Uber and its rival Lyft both just have days left to appeal a preliminary injunction granted by a California judge on Monday that will prohibit the companies from continuing to classify their drivers as independent workers.
