Critical Mass is a mass bicycle ride that takes place on the last Friday of each month in cities around the world (but most importantly, here in San Francisco).
The event, a well-intentioned massive bike caravan, starts at Justin Herman Plaza (at the foot of Market Street near the Embarcadero) and spreads out across the streets of downtown regardless of traffic lights – shutting down intersections and causing general mayhem.
It’s really annoying for the poor people on buses who get stuck in this mess along with the cars, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun if you’re on a bike and want to fell like you own the streets for the day and don’t care what the stuck muni riders think.
