Event Details

On Friday, May 16, join us for an evening of film and cultural reflection at Documenting Dyke Desires: Lesbian and Queer Porn, Pleasure, and Politics in 1990s San Francisco, a one-night only event that revisits and celebrates the revolutionary sex-positive lesbian scene that emerged in the Bay Area during the 1990s.

This free event will feature a screening of “Safe is Desire” (1993), a groundbreaking lesbian safer sex film produced by Fatale Media and directed by Debi Sundahl. The film, praised for its bold representation of lesbian sexuality and commitment to sexual health, was a pioneering work at the intersection of feminist porn and queer sexual health politics.

Accompanying the screening is a dynamic panel discussion bringing together key voices to reflect on the legacy of 1990s dyke porn, the politics of representation, and how this vibrant era helped lay the groundwork for today’s feminist and queer adult media landscapes.

Panelists include:

Karen Everett, Documentary Filmmaker and Story Consultant
Jiz Lee, Marketing Director, CrashPadSeries.com
Carol Queen, Ph.D., Sexologist and Co-Founder, Center for Sex and Culture
Christina Sophie, Sex and Relationship Coaching
Moderated by Lynn Comella, Ph.D., Professor and Co-Founder of UNLV’s Sexual Entertainment and Economies Collecting Initiative.

Join us for an evening that honors the radical creativity, activism, and erotic expression of a defining era in sexual and film history.
