San Francisco Film Preserve is hosting their first ever in-person screening this International Dog Day! In celebration of the wonderful canines in our lives, they have programmed a fabulous duo of silent dog-starring movies: short silent film The Love Fighter featuring Fearless the Dog, and the premiere screening of their beautiful 4K restoration of Black Lightning, featuring Thunder the Marvel Dog. You also might have heard of Marvel’s human co-star, one Clara Bow?!
Black Lightning follows the trials of Clara Bow’s Martha Larned, raising her little brother alone in the mountains while fighting off unwanted attention from her male neighbors. War veteran Ray Chambers (Harold Austin) and his trusty companion Marvel are on the mountain too, and soon cross paths with Martha and her tormentors. The Love Fighter also features returning war heroes (of both the human and canine kind), this time fighting crime back on their home turf!
Both films will be accompanied live on piano by the one and only Wayne Barker, and the program will be introduced by David Stenn, author of Clara Bow: Runnin’ Wild, the definitive Bow biography. Don’t miss this marvelous evening of dogtastic adventures!
