Oakland’s 2022 Halloween Yard Haunt & DIY Puppet Show (Oct. 29-31)
Submitted by the Event Organizer
Driveway Follies offers a rare opportunity to see the nearly lost art of marionette puppetry in an intimate setting. Driveway Follies is recognized for providing professionally staged family-friendly Halloween marionette performances each year in Oakland.
The repertoire celebrates and illustrates historic and cultural aspects of Halloween, some with an educational twist. Since inception, a diverse audience of over 10,000 Halloween revelers has enjoyed the performances. Driveway Follies is unique alternative to the gore and commercialism that has become a part of modern Halloween.

Our 2022 shows are scheduled for October 30 and 31, 2022 starting at dusk and ending around 10 p.m.; Of course our crystal ball is still tuned-in to safety recommendations and we’re requiring that everyone include a CDC-approved mask in their costume and stays home if they don’t feel well. Let’s keep the Follies fun and safe for everyone.
This show is a Halloween tradition created by the legendary, late puppeteer Larry Schmidt, who many of us miss dearly. Larry was a very talented person & prolific artist. Everyone is encouraged to come see puppets he created in action just as he intended. It promises to be a magical experience for everyone.
